El S.S. Botany Bay, dentro del universo de Star Trek es un Navío de propulsión nuclear de la clase DY-100, la cual fue una nave interplanetaria estándar de finales del siglo XX.Llamado así por la famosa colonia penal australiana, la S.S. Botany Bay fue convertida en una "sleeper ship" y lanzada en 1996 con refugiados de las guerras eugenesicas: Khan Noonieng Singh y su banda de superhombres. El lanzamiento fue mantenido en secreto para no poner en conocimiento de la población que el tirano el cual gobernó una cuarta parte del planeta desde 1992 a 1996 estaba aun vivo. Khan y sus seguidores esparaban encontrar otro mundo para conquistar y dominar.

El S.S. Botany Bay vagó por el espacio durante 200 años con sus pasajeros en animación suspendida. hasta que el U.S.S. Enterprise encontró la sleeper ship cerca del sector Mutara en 2267. Los sistemas automáticos de la nave intentaron revivir a Khan primero, siendo el líder del grupo, pero falló durante el proceso, forzando a la tripulación del Enterprise intervenir y a salvar a la figura histórica. El capitán James T. Kirk trató de mantener a los otros pasajeros en éxtasis hasta llegar a la base estelar 12, pero Khan burló la seguridad y se transportó de vuelta su nave para revivir a sus seguidores y comenzar una rebelión. De los 84 pasajeros originales, solo sobrevivieron 72, 30 de ellos mujeres. El Botany Bay fue desechado en el espacio profundo cuando Khan intento tomar el Enterprise. Pero una serie de pertenencias fue conservada (tales como una colección de libros clásicos y un cinturón de seguridad) las cuales fueron econtradas en Ceti Alpha V, donde Khan y su gente fueron finalmente exiliados.
