Los satúrnidos o saturníidos (Saturniidae) son una familia de mariposas nocturnas. Se encuentran entre los lepidópteros más grandes y espectaculares, con una estimación de 1.300 a 1.500 especies diferentes. La familia Saturniidae incluye a la mariposa atlas y la mariposa emperador.

Resalta que su aparato bucal está atrofiado o está ausente ya que el adulto no se alimenta.[1]
