Scratch es un anglicismo que significa literalmente rayar o arañar. Tiene distintos significados según el ámbito en el que se aplique:

Arte
  • Lee "Scratch" Perry, músico jamaiquino de reggae y dub.
  • Scratch, técnica musical que se desarrolla moviendo un disco de vinilo hacia delante y hacia detrás en un tocadiscos.
  • En pintura o ilustración, se le denomina así a la técnica donde se raya la pintura con una punta de metal fina, después de haber cubierto la pintura (o caseína) con tinta china. Existen diferentes técnicas.
Cine y ficción
  • Scratch, en el programa de televisión Las aventuras de Sonic el Erizo.
Informática
  • En informática se usa (en particular en las comunidades de software libre) para hablar de empezar desde cero a escribir el código de un programa.
  • El lenguaje de programación Scratch, desarrollado por el Lifelong Kindergarten Group del MIT Media Lab intenta hacer fácil la programación de video juegos, animaciones, música y arte interactivo-
Deportes
  • En los rallys se denomina 'scratch' al mejor tiempo obtenido por un piloto en un tramo durante un rally, equivale a la vuelta rápida en la Fórmula 1.
  • En ciclismo en pista se denomina 'scratch' a la prueba en la cual hay que completar un número predeterminado de vueltas a la pista.
Biología
  • "Scratches" es un sinónimo de fiebre del fango, una infección que se encuentra en caballos.
