Sir Robert Williams

Sir Robert Williams, Aberdeen (Escocia) (21 de enero 1860 - †25 de abril 1938), fue ingeniero de minas, explorador, pionero de África, empresario, xonstructor y promotor del ferrocarril de Benguela en Angola. También contribuye al descubrimiento de grandes reservas de cobre en Katanga y Rhodesia del Norte.


Biografía

Empleado, asesor y socio en varias empresas de Cecil Rhodes desde que se conocieron en 1885 hasta la muerte de Rodas, en 1902.

En 1902, se hizo cargo de la construcción del ferrocarril de Benguela, que debía ser completado en 1929. En ese tiempo, asistió a la ceremonia para conmemorar la finalización de la línea de Luau, cuya estación se colocó una lápida de granito con una inscripción.

Hasta la independencia de Angola, en 1975, la localidad de Caála era conocida como Villa de Robert Williams, en su honor.

Caballero de la Orden Militar de Cristo.
