Teresa De Lauretis es una teórica postestructuralista y cinematográfica italiana, nacida en Milán en 1938.

Afincada en Estados Unidos, De Lauretis es editora desde 1986 de la prestigiosa revista 'Feminist Studies/Critical Studies', desde donde ha impulsado un feminismo radical con una nueva lectura de la sociedad.

Fue la primera persona en utilizar el término Teoría Queer para acentuar las discontinuidades de las diferentes formas de afectividad y sexualidad (en oposición a la concepción común en el s. XX de separar completamente a las personas homosexuales de las heterosexuales); pero lo ha abandonado por juzgar que la palabra 'queer' había sido adueñada por prácticas teóricas e incluso mercadológicas que la vaciaron de su contenido político.

Sus libros más destacados se centran en la representación cinematográfica de la mujer y en la defensa de la definición sexual como categoría teórica:
