The Recruit (En España: La Prueba, En México: El Discípulo) es un thriller de espionaje estadounidense dirigida por Roger Donalson en 2003.

Esta película trata sobre las pruebas de reclutamiento de la CIA a las que jóvenes universitarios de todo el país están sometidos para convertirse en espías. ¿De dónde salen estos jóvenes? ¿Por qué dedicarse al espionaje? Son preguntas que se plantean en la película.

Argumento

James Clayton (Colin Farrell), un excelente estudiante del MIT, es reclutado por el agente de la CIA Walter Burke (Al Pacino) para servir a su país. James entra en contacto con otros aspirantes a trabajar para la CIA en un centro de formación de la Central donde serán entrenados como espías y donde se escogerán únicamente a los más cualificados. Allí se enamora de una chica, Layla (Bridget Moynahan), otra aspirante a entrar en la CIA.

James pronto descubre los entresijos del mundo del espionaje, y la desconfianza constante a la que está sometido sin poder confiar en nadie, y donde nada es lo que parece. Entonces cuando empieza a plantearse su futuro como espía, su supervisor, el agente Burke, le asigna una misión especial que consiste en desenmascarar a un topo.
