La Urtica urens es una especie de la familia de las Urticaceae. Se trata de una especie cosmopolita.

Descripción

Es un arbusto con follaje persistente; tallo cuadrangular; hojas alternas, grandes, con pelos urticantes; con las flores de color lilas. Florece de otoño a primavera y fructifica en primavera.

Propiedades

La característica más conocida de esta planta es la presencia de pelos urticantes cuyo líquido cáustico (acetilcolina) produce una irritación con picor intenso en la piel cuando se la toca o roza.
