Íñigo Ortiz de Retez, navegante español que vivió en el siglo XVI.

En el viaje a bordo del San Juan llegó a Nueva Guinea en 1545, desembarcando en tres islas de la costa norte, así como cerca de la desembocadura del río Bei. Ortiz de Retez tomó posesión de estos territorios para la corona española, dándoles el nombre de Nueva Guinea porque sus habitantes se parecían a los de las costas de Guinea en África.
