Yum Kaax

Yum Kaax (Señor del maíz joven) es el dios maya de la agricultura y la vida. Se le representaba como un joven con una mazorca de maíz en las 2 manos. Durante el periodo clásico se le consideró una advocación de Hunahpú (gemelo divino del Popol Vuh), quien al morir revive en la forma de Yum Kaax y comúnmente se le representó surgiendo de la tierra, imagen que narra la leyenda de "la resurrección del maíz".

Entre los mayas de Yucatán se le consideró hijo de Itzamná e Ixchel y vigilante de la selva. Según datos recogidos por el escritor yucateco Ermilo Abreu Gómez "en su presencia no se puede hablar de la muerte".
