El Comanchero era sobre todo el comerciante mexicano del norte y centro que hizo su vida negociando con las tribus nómadas de los llanos, en el noroeste de Nuevo México y el oeste de Tejas .Los Comancheros eran así nombrados porque los Comanches, en cuyo territorio negociaban, los consideraban sus mejores clientes. Negociaron productos manufacturados ( herramientas y paños), la harina, el tabaco, y el pan para las pieles, el ganado y los esclavos del Comanche. Ya que los Comancheros no tenían suficiente acceso a las armas y a la pólvora, hay desacuerdo sobre cuánto negociaron éstos al Comanche
