Bachelor of Arts

Bachelor of Arts (abreviado B.A., BA or A.B.), del latín Artium Baccalaureus, es un título de Grado en los países anglosajones y en la Unión Europea. Se obtiene después de tres años de estudios en Gran Bretaña, Singapur, Australia, Alemania, Nueva Zelanda, Hong Kong, India o África del Sur, y después de cuatro años en Estados Unidos y en Escocia. También es el grado que se obtiene en instituciones educativas de Gales.

Diferencias entre el Bachelor of Science y el Bachelor of Arts

El Bachelor of Arts y el Bachelor of Science son los grados académicos de pregrado más comunes en los Estados Unidos, en Canadá y en la Unión Europea, entre otros. Sin embargo, no son iguales en todos los países. Mientras en la Unión Europea sólo remplazaron a los programas anteriores, en los Estados Unidos tienen una gran tradición.

En los Estados Unidos, tanto el Bachelor of Arts como el Bachelor of Science requieren de los estudiantes que tengan una especialización y una cierta cantidad de asignaturas electivas. El Bachelor of Arts se caracteriza en ese país por formar personas que conocen bien y por igual tanto las letras, como las bellas artes y las humanidades, mientras el Bachelor of Science se especializa en las ciencias naturales. Sin embargo, en biología y economía suele otorgarse un Bachelor of Arts y no uno en Science. Al fin y al cabo, mucho depende de los reglamentos de las universidades que otorgan el título, lo cual es más estricto en la Unión Europea (con un sistema completamente diferente para otorgar el mismo título) que en Estados Unidos.
