Todo músico tiene opiniones sobre cuales son los solos de guitarra más grandes alguna vez grabados. Si bien hay muchos que son comúnmente considerados como "grandes", hay muchos otros que no reciben tanta atención. En el año 2006, la revista estadounidense Guitar World realizó una encuesta para que sus lectores opinarán quien consideraban los mejores solos de guitarra de todos los tiempos. Los resultados seguramente reflejan la demografía de la revista (sin solos de guitarra de jazz, por ejemplo).
