Margaret Rhodes, LVO (Margaret Buller-Fullerton-Elphinstone, Escocia, Reino Unido, 9 de junio de 1925) es una prima y amiga de la reina Isabel II, como así también sobrina y allegada de Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, consorte de Jorge VI por lo que estrictamente, aunque pariente de la Reina no puede ser considerada miembro de la Familia Real Británica.

Biografía

Hija del 16º Lord (Señor) Sidney Buller-Fullerton-Elphinstone y de su esposa, María Bowes-Lyon, cuando nació recibió el título de Honorable Margaret Rhodes. Fue diez meses mayor que Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, actual reina Isabel II, con la que solía jugar desde su niñez montando caballos en el Castillo de Balmoral y de la que fue dama de honor durante su boda con Felipe Mountbatten, el 20 de noviembre de 1947 en la Abadía de Westminster.[1]

Mientras realizaba un curso de secretariado en Egham durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, fue invitada a asentarse definitivamente en el Castillo de Windsor con tan solo 17 años. Sin embargo, luego de conseguir un trabajo como secretaria en MI6, el Palacio de Buckingham se convirtió en su hogar. En 1950, con 25 años, contrajo matrimonio con Denys Grovenor Rhodes y desde aquel entonces, viajó a diversos sitios. Con él, tendría cuatro hijos. Luego de que su esposo falleciera en 1981 a causa de un cáncer, la Reina le ofreció hospedaje en Windsor Great Park, donde vive desde entonces.[1]

Desde 1991 a 2002, fue una asidua acompañante de su tía, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. Recibió la Real Orden Victoriana y en 2006, poco antes del 80º cumpleaños de Isabel II,[2] declaró en una entrevista a la BBC que, a pesar de los rumores, no abdicaría.[3] En la actualidad continúa brindando reportajes y planea presentar su autobiografía.[1]
