El Boggart es una criatura de origen celta-anglosajón. Se manifiesta de distintas maneras, ya que según la tradición, adopta la forma del temor más grande de sus víctimas.

Descripción

El término "Boggart" proviene de los vocablos Bog, inundar; y art, arte, que daría como resultado "arte inmundo" (comúnmente es considerado como fog, que sigifica neblina, provocando el arte neblinoso).

Son espíritus maltratados que se han vuelto malévolos, disfrutan haciendo travesuras y no suelen ser dañinos. Parece que les gusta salir de noche y en ocasiones son espíritus domésticos, en este último caso, se dice que se esconden generalmente en lugares oscuros, como roperos, debajo de las camas, en áticos o sótanos.

Algunos indican que la leyenda puede haber sido el origen de la posterior creencia en el asustador de niños conocido como Bogeyman.

En la ficción y literatura

Nadie sabe la verdadera forma de los boggarts, ya que se adoptan la forma física del mayor temor del mago delante de él. El hechizo para neutralizar a un boggart es el llamado Ridikulo.
