Compañía Norteamericana de Software y Hardware para aplicaciones musicales (DAW Digital Audio Workstation - Estación de trabajo de audio digital). Su producto estrella es el secuenciador de Audio/MIDI SONAR, el cual va en la versión 8.5, aunque también producen instrumentos virtuales, interfases de Audio y MIDI, así como monitores de estudio.

Inicialmente la compañía se llamó "Twelve Tone Systems, Inc.", lanzando en 1987 el secuenciador MIDI llamado Cakewalk Professional 1.0 para el sistema operativo DOS de Microsoft, requiriendo de una interfase MIDI MPU-401 para su funcionamiento. Bajo el sistema DOS, avanzó hasta la versión 4.0, y luego fue lanzado desde la versión 1.0 para el sistema operativo Windows de Microsoft. En un principio Cakewalk no ofrecía funciones de audio, pero con el lanzamiento de Cakewalk Pro Audio 4 (el cual llegó hasta la versíon 9, antes de llamarse SONAR), le brindó a sus usuarios completas funciones de grabación/edición de audio, utilizando el formato de plug-ins de Microsoft DXi para la manipulación con efectos en tiempo real. A partir de la versión 6 de SONAR, Cakewalk adoptó como nativo el formato de plug-ins de Steinberg VST (Virtual Studio Tools).

Hoy en día SONAR, junto con NUENDO de Steinberg[[1]], LOGIC de Apple [[2]] y PRO TOOLS de Digidesign [[3]], es una de las aplicaciones mas utilizadas en el mundo para la producción y post-producción de música en forma digital.
