Argumento
La historia comienza cuando un Asistente Fiscal, Dave Douglas (Tim Allen) asume su último caso legal, esta vez involucrando a un laboratorio animal sospechoso. Es otro proyecto que alejará a Dave, quien es adicto al trabajo, de su esposa (Kristin Davis) y de sus hijos (Zena Grey y Spencer Breslin), quienes anhelan su atención. Pero cuando Dave accidentalmente se infecta con un suero de mutación genética secreta que transforma su cuerpo en el un perro de raza collie barbudo, todo lo que pensó que sabía acerca de sí mismo y de su relación familiar cambia. Ahora, con sus orejas alzadas y en el lugar más ilustre de la alfombra de la casa, Dave tiene la oportunidad de obtener una perspectiva totalmente distinta de los secretos y sueños de la familia. Inspirado por lo que descubre, Dave no desea otra cosa más que dejarse de juegos y volver a ser padre, pero antes deberá detener a un genio malvado (Robert Downey Jr.) que está detrás del suero, en una persecución que finalmente le dará la oportunidad de convertirse en el mejor amigo del hombre y de su familia.
