Abhay Ashtekar

Abhay Ashtekar (5 de julio de 1949 -) físico indio, uno de los fundadores de la teoría de la Gravedad cuántica de bucles y de la Cosmología cuántica de bucles, una alternativa a la Teoría del Big bang.

Es Profesor de Física Eberly y director del Instituto para la Física Gravitacional y Geometría de la Universidad del Estado de Pennsylvania. Como creador de las Variables Ashtekar, es uno de los fundadores de la Gravedad cuántica de bucles y de la Cosmología cuántica de bucles. Asimismo ha escrito algunas descripciones divulgativas sobre estas materias accesibles para los no versados en física. Hizo sus primeros estudios en India y luego profundizó bajo la supervisión de Robert Geroch en la Universidad de Chicago, donde se doctoró en 1974 con la tesis Asymptotic Structure of the Gravitational Field at Spatial Infinity).
