Clement Harris

Clement Harris (1871-1897) (Clement Hugh GIlbert Harris) fue un pianista y compositor inglés que estudió música en Alemania y peleó en la Guerra Greco-Turca en 1897.

Nació en Londres, estudió música en Fráncfort del Meno donde fue discípulo de Clara Schumann y trabó íntima amistad con Siegfried Wagner, hijo de Richard Wagner, con quien hizo un viaje a Oriente en 1892.

Durante el viaje compuso su poema sinfónico El paraíso perdido sobre Milton. Admirador de la cultura griega, se encontraba en Grecia durante la Guerra Greco-Turca. Organizó un batallón de mercenarios y fue muerto en la batalla de Pente Pigadia el 23 de abril de 1897 a los 25 años de edad.

Su muerte fue conmemorada en el poema "Pente Pigadia" de Stefan George y en el poema sinfónico "Glück" que Siegfried Wagner compuso en 1922.
