Abigaíl es un nombre ambiguo (generalmente para los dos sexos) de origen hebreo, empleado también en español.


Etimología

Provine del hebreo (אֲבִיגָיִל, Avigáyil, ʾĂḇîḡáyil o ʾĂḇîḡāyil) y significa "el padre salta de júbilo" o "regocijo del padre" o "fuente de alegría"; es un personaje bíblico.

Historia

En el Antiguo Testamento, Abigaíl es una moabita, mujer de Nabal primero y tercera esposa del rey David, después. David la toma por esposa al ver en ella una mujer prudente y con entendimiento.
