Cricket Communications, Inc. se fundó en 1999, es un subsidiario del Leap Wireless International, Inc. Ofrece servicio inalámbrico en los Estados Unidos por mes en pospago solamente; no requiere cheques de crédito o los contratos de servicio de largo plazo como otros proveedores de servicios en los Estados Unidos en fecha el primer cuarto del 2008, Cricket proporcionan servicio a más de 3 millones de clientes en las partes de 25 estados, en CDMA 1X de Leap y las redes 1xEV-DO.

El 4 de septiembre de 2007, el portador competente MetroPCS anunció $5.3 mil millones de dólares para una oferta de fusión con Leap Wireless. Leap rechazó la oferta informal dos semanas más adelante. MetroPCS retiró oficialmente la oferta dos meses más adelante, el 1 de noviembre de 2007.
