Un Dagwood sandwich

Un Sándwich Dagwood (del inglés sandwich) es un sándwich grueso de varias capas que está compuesto de una gran variedad de carnes, quesos y condimentos. Fue llamado así por Dagwood Bumstead, un personaje de la historieta Blondie, quien con frecuencia hace enormes sándwiches.

Aunque el contenido real de un Dagwood permanezca oscuro, tal sándwich parece implicar cantidades grandes y variedades de fiambres, el queso cortado, y las rebanadas adicionales del pan. Una aceituna perforada por un mondadientes o pincho de madera por lo general corona la superestructura comestible.

En la serie animada estadounidense "Scooby-Doo", Shaggy y Scooby a menudo son vistos preparándose un Sándwich .

La expresión "Dagwood Sándwich" ha sido incluida en el Nuevo Diccionario Mundial de Webster, y "Dagwood" (refiriéndose al Sándwich) han sido incluidos en el Diccionario de Herencia estadounidense.

En mayo de 2006, los planes para una cadena de restaurants con el tema de "Blondie" fueron anunciados. El Dagwood será vendido como un Sándwich de 1,5 libras.
