Sabbataï Tsevi

El termino Dönmeh (del Turco dön-, "volverse"), también se llaman Selanikli (los que son de Tesalónica[1] ), se refiere a un grupo de Sabateos[2] criptojudios de Oriente Medio que fueron seguidores en el siglo XVII del mesias judío Shabtai Tzvi . Los Dönmeh oficialmente practican el Islam. Para les Dönmeh, la conversión de Tzvi tuvo una significación religiosa particuliar, más especificamente una significación cabalistica. Contrariamente a los marranos españoles, para los que la religión judia era exclusiva, los fundadores de la secta han adoptado voluntariamente el Islam, considerando que la doble practica del judaísmo y el Islam era un mandato divino.
