Edward Herrmann es un actor norteamericano nacido el 21 de julio de 1943 en Washington, D.C.. Lleva actuando más de 30 años. A lo largo de su carrera Herrmann ha actuado en Broadway, en el cine y televisión. Parte de su trabajo incluye M·A·S·H, St. Elsewhere, Law and Order, y The Practice.

Herrmann fue nominado para un Tony Award por su actuación en "The Philadelphia Story" y ganó un Tony Award por su trabajo en "Mrs. Warren´s Profession". También gano un Emmy por sus seis episodios en The Practice. Él tenía tres nominaciones anteriores en los Emmy por "St. Elsewhere", y las películas de TV "Concealed Enemies" y "Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years" (donde encarnó a Franklin D. Roosevelt).

Herrmann es un actor muy ocupado. Además de interpretar a Richard Gilmore, su actual papel en la serie de televisión Gilmore Girls, él es un narradador recurrente del canal The History Channel y está trabajando en tres películas. También participa en la obra "Lincoln Center" y trabaja con Al Pacino y Dianne Wiest en la producción de Estelle Parson, Oedipus the King.

Interpretó a Harrison Beecher, el padre del preso Tobias Beecher en la serie de televisión Oz.
