First Study Group

El First Study Group (en español, Primer Grupo de Estudio, FSG por sus siglas en inglés) fue un equipo de criptoanalistas y expertos en distintas disciplinas (como matemáticas, lingüística o historia) que, fuera de horas de oficina, trabajaron en el estudio del Manuscrito Voynich, a las órdenes de William F. Friedman, en el período 1944-1946.

El FSG ideó el primer sistema de transcripción para poder analizar el Manuscrito utilizando máquinas automáticas, formado por 26 letras (o números) y 3 signos especiales: 'espacio', 'párrafo' y 'carácter desconocido'.

Al acabar la Segunda Guerra Mundial, el grupo se disolvió sin haber publicado sus trabajos, estudios y resultados. Posteriormente, el propio Friedman organizaría un segundo grupo de trabajo, el Second Study Group (SSG).
