Ferragosto

Ferragosto es una fiesta italiana celebrada el 15 de agosto. De raíces antiquísimas, esta fiesta popular celebraba el fin de las labores agrícolas.

Según la tradición católica es el día de la Asunción de la Virgen María a los cielos.

Esta fiesta se celebraba también en el Imperio Romano, antes de la existencia de la Iglesia Católica, en honor de la diosa Diana y el ciclo de la fertilidad y madurez. El nombre de la fiesta actual viene del original romano de Feriae Augusti

El director de cine Gianni di Gregorio dirigió en 2008 una exitosa comedia sobre el tema, Vacaciones de ferragosto.
