Alai es una cordillera que se extiende desde la cordillera de Tian Shan en el oeste del Kirguistán hasta Tayikistán. No debe confundirse con el Macizo de Altai.

La cordillera continúa aproximadamente al este y al oeste. La vertiente Sur de la cordillera vacía su agua en el río Vakhsh, un afluente del Amu Daria. Los arroyos que vacían la vertiente Norte de la cordillera son afluentes del Sir Daria, que acaban en el Valle de Fergana al Norte de la cordillera.
