John Lawrence

John Lawrence (nacido en 1844 en Great Malvern, condado de Worcester, Reino Unido - fallecido el 18 de octubre de 1932 en la Estancia Remolinos - Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, fue un pastor y misionero anglicano.

En 1869 viajó junto con su familia a la isla Keppel o Vigía en las islas Malvinas junto con Thomas Bridges. Dos años más tarde se instalaron en la Misión Anglicana de Ushuaia junto con las familias Bridges, Lewis y varias familias yámanas.

En 1898 abandonaron la Misión de Ushuaia y se radicaron en la estancia Punta Remolino a 30 km al este de Ushuaia en terrenos cedidos por el Estado argentino durante la presidencia de Julio Argentino Roca en gratitud a la labor cultural desarrollada por esta familia entre la población indígena desde 1873.

Esta estancia se convirtió en un refugio y una fuente de trabajo y adaptación cultural para los yámanas, selknam, haush y sus descendientes hasta aproximadamente 1930, momento en el que falleció John Lawrence.
