John Martin (Haydon Bridge, 1789 - Douglas, Isla de Man, 1854)

John Martin fue uno de los artistas ingleses más importantes de su época. Es conocido sobre todo por sus impresionantes y variados grabados. A él le debemos grabados del Antiguo y Nuevo Testamento, de impresionantes paisajes naturales (claramente influenciado por la corriente estética kantiana de lo sublime).

Su fama fue incuestionable cuando realizó en 1821 el tema bíblico El festín de Baltasar. Asimismo, es digno de recordar otras impresionantes obras como El paraíso perdido, estampas que ilustran el poema del poeta inglés John Milton. Ya por último, cabe mencionar sus aguafuertes sobre dinosaurios, donde se esforzó para recrear lo más fielmente su posible hábitat.
