Maeve

Maeve (pronunciado /meɪv/) es la adaptación inglesa del nombre gaélico Mebdh, o Meadhbh de la reina de Connacht en la mitología irlandesa donde originalmente era considerada una deidad, aunque más tarde, durante la adaptación de los mitos al catolicismo, la figura fue cambiada por el de una simple reina mortal.

El nombre de Megdh significa la que está ebria y puede estar relacionada por su similitud con la palabra en inglés Mead usada para designar el vino de miel. En la mitología griega existe una figura similar, Dionisio(en griego Διώνυσος Diônysos o Διόνυσος Dionysos) Dios del vino y protector de la naturaleza, que fue posteriormente asimilado por la mitología romana como Baco.

En la actualidad es un nombre que aún se utiliza para bautizar mujeres en Irlanda. Maeve
