Martin Birch alcanzó fama internacional como ingeniero de sonido y productor de las bandas británicas Deep Purple y Iron Maiden.

Birch también ha sido productor e ingeniero de algunas bandas relacionadas con Deep Purple (Rainbow, Paice, Ashton & Lord, Whitesnake, Roger Glover, Jon Lord), pero también para Fleetwood Mac, Black Sabbath y Blue Öyster Cult.

Se retiró en 1992, después de producir el álbum Fear of the Dark de Iron Maiden.
