Aquila de Sinope fue un nativo del Ponto en Anatolia del Siglo II a. C., conocido por ser el autor de una traducción literal de la Biblia Hebrea al griego aproximadamente en el año 130 a. C.[1] Fue un prosélito del judaísmo, discípulo de Akiva ben Iosef,[1] , y se cree que fue conocido también como Onquelos, autor del tárgum homónimo.

Otro Aquila (en griego : Ακύλας), judío de Corinto, fue convertido por Pablo de Tarso, a quien acompañó a Éfeso. Los griegos lo recuerdan como santo el 8 de julio.
