Fue el primera ganador del Festival pero no fue la primera participación de Suiza. Esta aparente anomalía se debe a las reglas del Festival de 1956 que permitía (por única vez a la fecha) que cada país fuera representado por dos canciones. Assia representó a Suiza cantando ambas canciones (uno de dos intérpretes en hacerlo), y ya había cantado "Das Alte Karussell" en Alemán ("Refrain" está en Francés).
La canción está en el estilo de la chanson clasica y lamenta los amores perdidos de la "adolescencia" de la cantante (la versión original francesa dice "de mes vingt ans", que se traduce literalmente "de mis veinte años" en español).
La canción fue sucedida como ganadora del Festival en 1957 por Corry Brokken, representando a los Países Bajos y cantando "Net als toen".
