Roman Vishniac (en ruso: Роман Вишняк; 19 de agosto de 1897 en Pavlovsk - 22 de enero de 1990 en Ciudad de Nueva York, Nueva York) fue un reconocido fotógrafo ruso-estadounidense.

Biografía

Nació a Pavlovsk el 19 de agosto de 1987 y creció en Moscú.[1] Su padres fueron Salomón Vishniac, un rico fabricante de paraguas, y su madre, Manya, hija de distribuidores de diamantes.

De niño, Roamn Vishniac estaba fascinado por la biología y la fotografía, su habitación estaba llena de plantas, insectos, peces y pequeños animales.[2] Cuando tenía siete años el uso el microscopio de su abuelo para ver todo tipo de indectos que encontaba.

Paso seis años estudiando en el Instituto Shanyavsky (hoy Universidad Shanyavsky) de Moscú. Allí obtuvo un doctorado en zoología y se convirtió en un profesor asistente de biología.

En 1918, Romano Vishniac se mudó a Berlín a causa de antisemitismo impulsado por la Tercera Revolución Rusa, donde poco después de llegar se caso con Luta (Leah) Bagg con quien tuvo dos hijos, Mara y Wolf. Comenzó a fotografiar a judíos en aldeas montañosas y guetos urbanos.

Luego se trasladó desde Lisboa a Nueva York. Allí empezó a mostrar sus fotografías de los judíos en Europa, e incluso le mando una carta la entonces Primera Dama de Estados Unidos, Eleanor Roosevelt para que visite su exposición.
