Rui Faleiro

Cosmógrafo portugués, nació finales del siglo XV en la ciudad portuguesa de Covilhã, fue el principal organizador científico de la viaje de circum-navegación de Fernão de Magalhães en Sevilla.

El conocimiento de la longitud en el mar era fundamental pues completaba los métodos ya conocidos para determinar la latitud y permitir la localización de los barcos en la superficie de los mares. Rui Faleiro fue el gran artífice de la averiguación de la longitud a partir del lugar de observador.
