Fables of the Reconstruction es el tercer álbum de estudio publicado por la banda de rock alternativo, procedente de Estados Unidos, R.E.M. publicado en 1985 por I.R.S. Records. El álbum, como se puede ver en el dibujo de la portada, también es llamado Reconstruction of the Fables, es decir Reconstrucción de las fábulas.

A pesar del gran éxito de sus anteriores álbumes, R.E.M. decide hacer cambios en su estilo musical y en sus hábitos de grabación, como el cambio de su productor (Joe Boyd) y el lugar de grabación (Londres).

Tras su lanzamiento, Fables of the Reconstruction llegó al número # 28 en las listas de EE.UU. y obtuvo mejores resultados en el Reino Unido, alcanzando el puesto # 35.
